Image: Applications are now open for BIOL 3840-3840L Field Research Techniques and Conservation. Field research techniques and conservation is an immersive field-based course designed to teach students the fundamentals of conducting biological field research. In this course, students will gain firsthand experience designing, conducting, and troubleshooting research methods related to modern issues in marine conservation. Offered in Maymester, this course culminates in an 8-day field season where students travel to the MarineLab Environmental Education Center in Key Largo, Florida. In the field, students will participate in an intensive experiential learning program where they visit various sites in the seagrass, mangrove, coral reef, and transitional habitats associated with the Florida Keys subtropical ecosystem. While onsite, students will learn about issues facing marine ecosystems and will work with the MarineLab staff to learn the methods of ongoing research and surveillance projects. Field activities include daily boat/snorkel trips, environmental monitoring-based labs, marine conservation lectures, and conservation methods workshops. This course is open to all UGA students who have completed BIOL 1108 or 1104. Apply here: https://dfs.uga.edu/_portal/tds-program-brochure?programid=14111
