Majors The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a major in biology is a liberal arts degree with a concentration in the biological sciences. It enables students to sample broadly from the diverse range of learning opportunities in the biological sciences and create a unique program of study that best matches their interests and abilities. Many students build a degree program to prepare themselves for professional programs such as medical school or advanced degrees in the biological sciences, while others use their academic training to immediately enter the workforce in such areas as data analytics, bioinformatics, and biotechnology or the research field focused on areas of cancer, pharmaceuticals, forestry, and plant biology. Whatever next steps a Biology major chooses, their academic experiences enable them to apply a foundational understanding of basic biological principles as well as developed skill sets of critical thinking, problem analysis, and collaboration to both scientific and everyday challenges.
